¿Who is Nigm? ¿Why does he appear out of nowhere? ¿What does he do hidden between ancient tomes and papers?... This are some of the many, many questions of which we will never know the answers.
In Spanish, we use the signs at both beginning and ending of the sentence* So, while I was pondering about certain things, I was recipient of an epiphany; why not make characters that are living sentences? They should have symbols around them and possess characteristics of what they represent I wanted to show that sentences can go beyond their "idea" boundaries and transform into beings, hence I thought about doing a series of characters with this premise. The four I conceptualized were: "apostrophe", ¿question?, ¡exclamation! and (parenthesis).
I present here the question mark personage, Nigm. It is the most mysterious of the four, always speaks in questions and never gives out answers (just replies with another question, which by the way is impolite and frustrating). It is friend of philosophers, scientists, scholars and anyone that asks or doubts. However, it prefers to live in old libraries and dark, forgotten places, making it too, the most elusive of the mark characters.
I believe that asking a good question is better than giving answer. Something interesting to note, is, that perhaps people don't ask the right questions to get the answers they need, so if one doesn't know how to ask the correct question one will never find the real answer or solution.
It is said that Nigm holds all the questions of the universe, though it doesn't have the answers...
*Spanish, I believe is one of the two languages that has it.
Changed my usual colorful mood for a somber one; made with Acrylics and colored pencils.
I had the fortune of working on three more of these characters with , and . They each did a sign character do visit them to see it and the rest of their galleries, their work is gorgeous ^_^
interesting concept. you've illustrated it wonderfully.
he looks very ominous. as do the hovering question marks.
also, the textures in this piece are brilliant.
Thank you Porcelain Such comment is very appreciated by yours truly And much more coming from a talented young artist like yourself
The textures were thanks to the paper, I only let the pigment flow and stain the surface
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts
