Huitzil from the Darkstalkers game. And the little squirt he protects since the Savior game (or was it from the second part? I don't remember ^^; ).

Anyways, this was my first entry for Udon's Darkstalkers Tribute artbook. Didn't get selected so I can share it :)

As you can see, I used many elements founds in codex. I wanted to convey the sense of antiquity with the present (the colors helped it too).
I already had studied some of the codex symbols and elements for another image, so I decided to apply the knowledge here too :)

My primera ilustración para el concurso de Darkstalkers. Es Huitzil y el mocoso que cuida (creo que debido a un malfuncionamiento en el programa de Huitzil).

I like mixing traditional and digital quite much, and this piece gave me the chance to add textures and effects to the bg that would otherwise take too long in traditional ^^;

I was wondering what you meant when you mentioned Huitzil in one of your replies. Somehow I missed this in the deviation notices.

I tend to agree with you. The two characters are portrayed in a less personal way. It is not you, outright. But you get more lose with the backdrop and there's YoU stamped all over there. The background is so rich, theres so many lovely details to look at. It almost contends with the subject for attention.

As someone else mentioned, mad props to you for melding the mechanical with the organic.

Ah, DA seems to be that a lot more often than I thought :( Niroot was having exactly that same issue with one of his images and had to update it 3 times so it would show in our inbox :no:

Yes, particularly the child (which by now I detest :( ). What you say regarding the background is both flattering and appreciated :D I really enjoyed doing th bg quite much, but, just as you wisely point out, it does fight for the attention with the characters. I think I should've made it more transparent or something ;P
